Microsoft announces an event to show us ‘what’s next’ for Windows

  • Microsoft has announced a June 24 live-streamed event regarding Windows.
  • It’s believed the firm is working on a major visual change code-named Sun Valley.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella teased news regarding the “next-generation of Windows” at the Build 2021 event last month, and it now looks like the firm will officially reveal details.

The Redmond company just announced a June 24 live-stream at 11 AM ET, imploring consumers to watch it to “see what’s next for Windows.” So what should we actually expect, then?

Windows Central reported that Microsoft is working on a major design change for the Windows UI, with this UI project purportedly called “Sun Valley.” It’s believed that the project will bring visual and functional changes to elements like the start menu, file explorer, action center.

The outlet adds that Sun Valley is part of the so-called Cobalt update for Windows 10. It further claims that Cobalt is slated for the holiday season.

Nadella also noted last month that the next generation of Windows will “unlock greater economic opportunity for developers and creators.” So we’ll likely have to wait until June 24 to find out what he means.
