Riot confirms a Valorant mobile game is in the works
- Riot Games has confirmed that a Valorant mobile game is in the works.
- The developer notes that Valorant Mobile will cater specifically to the needs of mobile players.
- There’s no confirmed launch date at present.
Riot Games’ tactical team shooter Valorant made its debut on PC a little over a year ago, attracting players from FPS and team-based games. Now, the developer has announced plans to bring the title to mobile.
In an announcement celebrating the game’s first anniversary, Riot confirmed that it’s working on a mobile version of the free-to-play shooter, namely Valorant Mobile.
The developer didn’t reveal too many details about the mobile version. However, its title does suggest it’ll be similar to its PC sibling rather than a complete spin-off. Valorant’s executive producer Anna Donlon told Polygon that the mobile version would focus on the mobile player’s needs. It won’t simply be a copy-paste version of the PC title. Donlon also confirmed that cross-play between PC and mobile wouldn’t be available. As the gaming experiences on the platforms differ, Riot intends to keep the two titles separate.
Riot is the latest big game developer to bring a flagship shooter to mobile. EA-owned Respawn announced plans to launch an Apex Legends mobile game, following in the footsteps of Fortnite, Call of Duty, and PUBG.
While Riot didn’t provide an official timeline for the game’s release, Donlan did tell Polygon that it might be available to play in “year two.”
