Suunto’s new sports watch packs a refined design, extended GPS tracking mode
- Suunto has announced the Peak 9 sports watch.
- It’s the Finnish firm’s latest addition to its flagship wearable range.
- The Peak will be available to purchase from June for $569.
After making a fleeting appearance at the FCC back in March, the Suunto 9 Peak is now official.
The Finnish brand’s latest sports watch comes in a thinner, smaller, and lighter shell that should make it better suited for indoor and outdoor use. This doesn’t make it any less attractive, though. Remaining true to its “Nordic design values,” the Peak features a reserved, minimalist design with stainless steel bodies. Titanium and sapphire glass face models are also on offer.
Suunto’s goal was to trim bulk with the Suunto 9 Peak, and compared to the larger Baro, it’s mission accomplished. The 43mm face and 22mm straps should make for an easier fit for most of the population.

The refreshed design comes with improvements under the hood, too. Battery life is massively improved, with Suunto claiming up to 170 hours of GPS tracking in Tour mode. This mode isn’t as accurate as continuous GPS tracking but should serve those on longer adventures. When GPS accuracy is paramount, the watch can last up to 25 hours in its highest accuracy mode. When the battery eventually dies, it can be topped up fully from 0% in an hour.
In terms of health-monitoring smarts, the Suunto 9 Peak packs an SpO2 sensor that can conduct spot checks, a heart rate monitor, and tracking for up to 80 different activities. The Peak is water-resistant up to 100 meters, too.
Other improvements include an automatic backlight with an ambient sensor and OTA software updates. The latter should make it less of a snag for Suunto to push new features to users. The usual Suunto smarts also feature, including weather info with the built-in barometer and a host of training guidance metrics.
Suunto 9 Peak: Price and availability
Suunto’s new flagship is available to preorder now, with full availability kicking off on June 17. To snag one, you’ll need at least $569 for the stainless steel option on Suunto’s store. The titanium variants start at $699.
