Google accidentally mentions (then removes) Pixel 6, Pixel 6 XL names online
- Google may have accidentally name-dropped the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 XL.
- The latter would make sense given that Google has used ‘XL’ for larger devices since the first Pixel.
- However, earlier rumors hinted at the larger device being called the Pixel 6 Pro.
We’ve seen plenty of leaks regarding the Google Pixel 6 series, detailing two phones that could tick plenty of boxes for flagship devices in 2021. Now, it looks like Google may have accidentally mentioned these devices online.
Google is holding a game developers summit this week, and the company peeled the curtain back on several gaming-focused features coming to Android 12. However, XDA-Developers noted that an official developer-related form casually mentioned the “Pixel 6” and “Pixel 6 XL.” Google has since scrubbed these mentions but you can view the saved screenshot below, courtesy of XDA.
We obviously expected Google to call it the Pixel 6 series, but it’s interesting to see the Pixel 6 XL name used. It’s not surprising as Google has used the XL branding since the very first Pixel back in 2016. But we have heard rumors that the larger Pixel could be called the Pixel 6 Pro.
Either way, it looks like the larger phone could be a contender to devices like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and OnePlus 9 Pro. Google’s XL device is tipped to offer an in-house processor, a 5,000mAh battery, and a flexible triple rear camera system potentially featuring a periscope lens.
Another recent rumor suggests that Google might be aiming for five years of system updates for the Pixel 6 series. This source isn’t rock-solid though, so we’ll be waiting for other leakers or official details before we get our hopes up.
