Asus has finally unveiled its flagship duo for the year — the Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip. The two phones share the Snapdragon 888 chip, qualifying them for the premium league. But besides the speedy processor, the siblings are quite different in terms of the specs and features they offer.

For instance, the standard Zenfone 8 targets buyers who want to keep things pocket-friendly, both in terms of size and cost. It comes in at €599 (~$727) and has a 6-inch screen for those who prefer their flagships to be compact. It also has a few advantages over the pricier Zenfone 8 Flip with a 120Hz display, IP68 water and dust protection, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and OIS on the main camera.

However, the vanilla model lacks the Zenfone 8 Flip’s main attraction — the flippy camera. You get a 64MP primary shooter, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and an 8MP telephoto camera on the Flip. You can flip this primary camera setup around to click selfies, giving the phone a notable advantage over the standard Zenfone 8. The standard Zenfone 8 also lacks a telephoto camera.

Elsewhere, the battery capacity on both phones is decent enough (on paper) at 4,000mAh for the standard model and 5,000mAh for the Flip. Both come with 30W wired charging.

With all these attributes, the new Zenfones find themselves competing with existing flagships like the Galaxy S21 series, Mi 11 Ultra, OnePlus 9, and even the iPhone 12.

In our review of the Zenfone 8, we noted that the phone’s size makes it easy to use, the display looks fantastic, and the overall performance is excellent. However, the cameras and battery life failed to impress us.

What are your thoughts on the Zenfone 8 series? Do you think Asus’ flagships are hot or not? Vote in our poll above and also share your thoughts in the comments section below.
