Leak: OnePlus is making a $200 phone with triple cameras, 6,000mAh battery
- OnePlus is apparently prepping an entry-level smartphone codenamed Clover.
- It will reportedly run on the Snapdragon 460 with a large battery.
- The phone might be priced around $200.
OnePlus is not just targeting the mid-range smartphone segment anymore. Android Central reports that it’s descending even lower on the price ladder with a new entry-level smartphone codenamed “Clover.”
According to the outlet, an “insider source” has confirmed that the launch of the OnePlus Clover is imminent. The phone is reportedly powered by the Snapdragon 460 chipset and features a sizeable battery.
What’s interesting is that the OnePlus Clover is tipped to have a 6.52-inch 720p IPS LCD display. It’s likely this is a 60Hz panel because that’s the maximum listed refresh rate the Snapdragon 460 can push. However, this refresh rate is at FHD+ resolution, so it’s possible the Snapdragon 460 can support a higher refresh rate for 720p screens. Either way, we hope OnePlus isn’t going back on its promise of 90Hz displays for all future phones.
What else could OnePlus Clover offer?
In the camera department, the new OnePlus phone will reportedly feature triple rear shooters. These are said to be a 13MP primary camera and two 2MP lenses.
There’s 4GB of RAM onboard paired with 64GB of internal storage. The phone will also feature a microSD slot for expandable storage, a rear fingerprint sensor, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The biggest highlight of the OnePlus Clover would be its large 6,000mAh battery with 18W charging. Android Central claims that the phone might be able to last two days on a single charge.
In terms of pricing, the OnePlus Clover is positioned “in the vicinity of $200.” That price will make it the cheapest OnePlus phone in the market. And unlike the OnePlus Nord, the Clover is said to also launch in the US.
That’s all we know about OnePlus’ new entry-level smartphone for now. The company is clearly diverging from its original strategy of making “Never Settle” flagships and entering a space that’s already dominated by the likes of Xiaomi. It’ll be interesting to see where OnePlus goes from here and if it can upturn the budget smartphone market like it did in the flagship space when it first launched.
