Vivo flaunts 60X zoom capabilities on upcoming X30 phones
Vivo is now officially teasing its upcoming 5G smartphone. Called the Vivo X30, the device is expected to be powered by the Samsung Exynos 980 5G chipset. Vivo previously teased a December launch for the X30 and is now confirming some of its specs through multiple video teasers.
Vivo’s big sell for the X30 seems to be its long-range zoom camera. The company confirmed this through one of two new official teasers for the phone. A still in the video teases a focal range of 16mm to 135mm, as well as variable aperture range of f/1.8 to f/3.0. The variable aperture values seemingly belong to the zoom lens which Vivo has confirmed in the text of its teaser post. The company calls the lens “Super Telephoto” and the second teaser for the phone confirms its 60x zoom capabilities.
Translated from Chinese to English, Vivo’s second teaser reads, “Zoom in, then zoom in again. 60x super zoom, more than you can see.” You can check out the first teaser below.
By employing a periscope-style camera, Vivo will join the ranks of the Huawei P30 Pro and the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition. We’re not really sure how the Vivo X30’s camera will compare with Huawei and Oppo’s devices, but it does offer one of the highest zoom capabilities we’ve seen on a phone so far. The P30 Pro offers 50x digital zoom, while the Oppo Reno 10x takes that up to 60x digital zoom. There’s no word on the optical or hybrid zoom values of the Vivo X30 yet, but it’s likely 60x digital zoom as well.
Besides dishing out info on the camera of the Vivo X30, the teasers also show the back of the phone. Well, just a glimpse. But it’s enough to make out the vertically stacked triple camera array and a separate rectangular camera, possibly the zoom camera, on the side.
The smartphone was previously tipped to sport a 64MP + 8MP + 13MP + 2MP quad camera setup. There’s a Pro version also expected, with a 60MP + 13MP + 13MP +12MP configuration.
Other noteworthy specs expected from Vivo’s X30 series phones include: 90Hz display, 44W flash charge, and a 32MP selfie shooter.
