Samsung Galaxy Note 9 update hub: Android 10 beta is live (in one market)

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 update

Update, November 20 2019 (4:35AM ET): Galaxy Note 10 and S10 owners have had all the fun in recent weeks, as the Android 10-based One UI 2.0 beta lands on their phones. Fortunately, Galaxy Note 9 owners can soon see what the fuss is about.

Samsung has announced the availability of the One UI 2.0 beta for the Note 9 in Korea (h/t: SamMobile). Samsung’s track record of S10 and Note 10 beta updates suggests that other markets aren’t far behind at all. Hopefully it’s a matter of days rather than weeks or months.

In any event, users can sign up for the One UI 2.0 beta by downloading the Samsung Members app and tapping the relevant banner.

Original coverage, March 2, 07:57 a.m. ET: Welcome to the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Android update hub. Here, you’ll find everything you need to know about the latest Galaxy Note 9 updates, including its current version, and when future updates are likely to arrive.

Galaxy Note 9 update

  • Current stable version: Android Pie
  • When will the Galaxy Note 9 get Android 10? March – April 2020 (estimated)

The Galaxy Note 9 arrived with Android Oreo on August 24. It started to receive Android Pie, the latest version of Android, in February. Android 10 is expected to be the last major software update it receives.

Based on Samsung’s recent updates, the phones should receive Android 10 within seven to eight months of Google releasing the final version. This would represent roughly the same timescales as we saw with the Galaxy Note 8, which launched with Android Nougat, receiving the Android Pie update. We’ll let you know when we learn more.

That isn’t to say Samsung has ignored its late 2018 device, as the Note 9 reportedly received an update (N960FXXU3CSF9) back in June that brought a Night mode for the camera app. Other additions in this update include the June 2019 security patch, and QR scanning functionality in the camera app.
