Pixel 4-like Google Assistant comes to Pixel 3, minus the bells and whistles
A smaller, more compact version of the Google Assistant is now rolling out to older Pixel phones. Some Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL users on Reddit are reporting that they are now seeing a condensed UI for the Google Assistant on their devices. It reportedly looks more like the new Google Assistant on the Pixel 4. However, none of the other new Assistant features like continued conversation or screen context can be spotted in the update.
So what’s changed? Apparently the Google Assistant on the Pixel 3 does not take up the whole screen anymore. Instead, it adjusts its size based on the size of the answer, taking up the bottom-third part of the display rather than the entire screen.
Even though the Assistant on Pixel 3 phones is less overpowering now, it does not get the Pixel 4’s transparent look (via 9to5Google). It’s also not available on all Pixel 3 devices just yet. Some redditors report that they got the update through stable channels, while others say that they got it after downloading the latest Google app beta.
This may be a small update, but it sure goes a long way towards making the Assistant less intrusive. Google would possible roll out the new Assistant look more widely beyond Pixel 3 phones.
