Here’s how Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo controllers will work with Stadia

Stadia is on the brink of launching and Google is covering all its bases by answering as many questions about the cloud gaming service before its release. Yesterday, Google conducted a Stadia AMA on Reddit. Google is now following up with details about Stadia’s support for Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo controllers.

What we gather from Google’s support page (via 9to5Google) is that you will only get to play Stadia on TVs with the $69 Stadia controller. As of now, the gaming service does not support Xbox, Playstation, or Nintendo controllers when playing on TV.

Keyboard and mouse inputs are only compatible with Stadia on Google Chrome v75 or higher.

The DualShock 4, Xbox One controller, and Xbox Adaptive Controller all have Bluetooth and USB support for Stadia on Chrome, Pixel 2, Pixel 3, Pixel 3a, or Pixel 4. The Xbox One Elite controller and Xbox 360 controller only support USB connectivity on the above mentioned devices.

The Switch Pro controller only supports Stadia play on Chrome (desktop). So those hoping to use Nintendo’s gamepad on their Pixel phone are out of luck for now.

While Stadia is extending support for all these popular controllers, there are a bunch of disclaimers to note here:

  • Some of these controllers may require additional drivers to properly function with Stadia on Windows, MacOS, Linux, and ChromeOS.
  • Android, Linux, and ChromeOS don’t support the Xbox Adaptive controller’s home button.
  • Stadia on Windows does not support the home button on Xbox controllers.
  • Xbox One Wireless on Linux doesn’t support Bluetooth connectivity.

Here’s the full breakdown of controller support on Google Stadia.
