Motorola One Hyper tipped for launch with pop-up camera, 64MP main sensor

Update, October 22, 2019 (5:32AM ET): We first got a look at images showing a Motorola phone with a pop-up selfie camera last month, and it now appears that we have a name for the new device.

According to XDA-Developers, the new phone could be called the Motorola One Hyper. We’ve also got what appears to be real-world pictures of the device via ProAndroid. Check them out below:

ProAndroid says the new phone packs a Snapdragon 675 processor, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage, and a 6.39-inch IPS screen (FHD+). But the phone is also apparently packing a 64MP main camera, which means Motorola will be joining Xiaomi, Realme, and Samsung in offering the high-resolution sensor. The device is also said to have an 8MP depth sensor on the rear and a 32MP camera located on the pop-up.

Original article, September 5 2019 (1:40PM ET): It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen a true, bonafide flagship smartphone from Lenovo subsidiary Motorola, but it looks like one could be in the works. Via XDA Developers, we now have some real-life images of what appears to be a Motorola smartphone with a pop-up selfie camera and a notch-less display.

The images have been heavily edited to remove any information that could lead to identifying who supplied the photos to XDA, so they look a bit wonky. However, it’s very easy to see the pop-up selfie camera, the distinctive Motorola circle widget on the home screen, and the notch-free, nearly-all-screen display.

Like we said, the pics are a little strange, but you can get the gist of what’s going on by looking at them.

Interestingly, reliable smartphone leaker Evan Blass tweeted out some images of a notch-less Motorola smartphone a few weeks ago. Those images don’t show a pop-up selfie camera, but it’s very possible these devices are one-and-the-same, just without showing the selfie camera.

If true, Motorola could be planning to launch a flagship phone soon — or, at the very least, a new phone with some flagship features. Considering that we haven’t seen a flagship from the company since the Motorola Moto Z3 (which still featured a year-old flagship processor when it landed), it’s about time for Moto to get back in the game.

What do you think? Are you ready for a full-on flagship from Motorola? Or do you hope this mystery device is another mid-ranger? Let us know in the comments!
