Google Pixel 4a appears at the FCC ahead of rumored July unveiling

The phone's launch date, however, still remains a mystery.

What you need to know

  • Google's upcoming Pixel 4a has surfaced at the FCC.
  • It isn't clear yet if the phone will be launched in July or if it will debut alongside the Pixel 5 in October.
  • It is rumored to come with a 5.81-inch FHD+ OLED display and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 730 chipset.

Earlier this week, Google's upcoming Pixel 4a was prematurely listed by two French online retailers. The listings suggested the phone would go on sale early next month, contradicting a previous leak that had claimed the phone will not go on sale until October 22. While Google is yet to confirm a launch date for the Pixel 4a, the phone has now appeared at the FCC.

Three variants of the upcoming Pixel phone have been spotted on the FCC database – G025J, G025M, and G025N. While the FCC listing doesn't actually confirm the name of the phone, the timing suggests it is indeed the Pixel 4a. The G025N variant of the phone was also certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards recently.

Google is rumored to announce the Pixel 4a on July 13, although it may not be available to purchase until the fourth quarter of the year. The phone is expected to come with a 5.81-inch FHD+ OLED display, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 730 chipset, and a 3,080mAh battery with 18W fast charging. In the camera department, the Pixel 4a is tipped to have a single 12.2MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. If rumors are to be believed, the Pixel 4a will start at just $349 for the 128GB variant. Its main rival will be the iPhone SE 2020, although it may also face stiff competition from the upcoming OnePlus Nord.
