OnePlus 8 Lite chipset, price leaked: A true OnePlus X successor?

An apparent mid-range OnePlus phone render.91mobiles/Onleaks

All signs point to OnePlus launching a more affordable device for the first time since 2015’s OnePlus X. The so-called OnePlus 8 Lite will likely see several compromises compared to the OnePlus 8 Pro models, but what kind of cutbacks can we expect?

Well, tipster Ishan Agarwal and 91Mobiles have revealed that the OnePlus 8 Lite will have a MediaTek chipset. There’s no word on a specific processor, but earlier rumors pointed to a 5G-enabled Dimensity 1000 chipset. That would still make for a very powerful, flagship-level SoC owing to the latest Arm CPU cores and GPU, but it lacks 8K recording capabilities and true 960fps super slow-mo recording.

The two sources also say the OnePlus 8 Lite will offer a 90Hz refresh rate, in line with the Pixel 4 and OnePlus 7T. But the new OnePlus flagships are expected to offer a 120Hz refresh rate.

In terms of pricing and availability, Agarwal says the phone will retail for £400 (~$513) in the UK, adding that it will be available worldwide by July. For what it’s worth, the OnePlus 7T launched at £549 (~$703) in the UK, so the OnePlus 8 Lite will be substantially cheaper if the reported price is correct. For what it’s worth, the OnePlus 7T launched in India for Rs 37,999 (~$519), so hopefully the OnePlus 8 Lite is significantly cheaper than that when it hits India.

The new phone was previously tipped to arrive with a punch-hole selfie camera, and at least two rear cameras. What else would you like to see from the Lite model? Give us your wishlist below.
