Motion Sense on Pixel 4 will only work in these 38 countries
The Google Pixel 4 series is all set to launch on October 15, but leaks about the phones remain relentless. A new dig-through of the Pixel 4’s Motion Sense app has revealed that previously confirmed hands-free gestures will only be available in 38 countries.
The Project Soli-based gesture suite, called Motion Sense, will allow Pixel 4 users to interact with their phones without touching them. Leaks have also shown how they can be used to control music, snooze alarms, silence calls, and more with a wave of a hand.
It’s an interesting feature for the Pixel 4 series since this is the first time radar technology will be used to facilitate hand gestures on a phone.
Now, 9to5Google has found fresh evidence that Motion Sense on the Pixel 4 series will work only in 38 countries and on nine media apps. The information comes after a teardown of a pre-release Motion Sense app for the Pixel 4 by the outlet.
Google has apparently whitelisted the following music apps to support Motion Sense on Pixel 4 phones:
- Amazon Music
- Deezer
- Google Play Music
- iHeartRadio
- Pandora
- Spotify
- Spotify Stations
- YouTube Music
- YouTube
It’s unclear whether these apps will be the only music apps to work with Motion Sense, or if they’ll gain extra features above and beyond basic functionality. At the very least, it seems like Pixel 4 users will be able to skip songs and go to next or previous tracks using hand gestures on these listed apps.
Further, only users in 38 countries will apparently get the feature for now. Since the feature requires the use of the Project Soli radar system, Google would need permission from relevant authorities to use it. Earlier this year, Google secured FCC permission to use Project Soli in its devices in the US. Here’s a list of all markets that have apparently also allowed Google to support Soli-based Motion Sense.
- American Samoa
